Just a few weeks after the first in-season test of 2026, the Honda HRC Castrol remained at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for another day of testing. With the forecasts signaling a mixed afternoon, both Joan Mir and Luca Marini were eager to get to work and run through their most critical items first. The predicted rain arrived just ahead of the lunch break and would bring an early end to proceedings with all teams electing to pack up.
Luca Marini was first out of the garage on Monday, the Italian focusing his attentions on general setup and a new spec fairing for the Honda RC213V. Getting through his testing plan and satisfying the requests of Honda HRC’s engineers, Marini would not return to the circuit after the pre-lunch rain. Completing a total of 41 laps across the reduced running, a best time of 1’39.843 put him in 14th when all was said and done.
On the other side of the Honda HRC Castrol garage, Joan Mir was left content with the work achieved in just a short time. Confirming the setup and speed of Sunday, Mir was able to circulate 32 times and set a fastest time of 1’39.857 – only 0.014s back on Marini. The objective of Monday was to assess several items which could be used in the latter stages of the season to help boost the performance of the Honda RC213V.
After back-to-back weekends in France and Spain, the Honda HRC Castrol team will enjoy a week of rest and recovery ahead of the Italian GP, May 29 to May 31.

“We tested a lot of things today, very productive even in a shorter amount of time. Satisfied with what we’ve done, doing our best in just 40 laps and we had some more work with three Honda riders on track. I like the direction that the development is going, good ideas for the future. Positives to keep working on. Now we get ready for Mugello, my home race! I’m really looking forward to it after being unable to ride there last year.”

“Able to try a few items today, some positives and some negatives like happens a lot in testing! Trying a few different configurations of pieces to refine the character of the bike a bit. The rain reduced our time on track, but it hasn’t been a big negative as we did what we really needed to. Leaving Barcelona after a positive weekend for us, one that gave us another boost in motivation and showed what we are capable of. Let’s go again in Mugello after a bit of a break.”
