The legendary Lotus 72 was first revealed to the world this week in 1970.
Designed by Formula 1 icon Colin Chapman and Maurice Phillipe, the 72 gave Lotus no less than three Constructors' Championships, as well as propel Jochen Rindt and Emerson Fittipaldi to Drivers' Championships in 1970 and 1972 respectively.
Such was the inherent brilliance and longevity of the car that it was only fully replaced in 1976, a full six years after its introduction.
In its iconic John Player Special livery, the 72 remains one of the most enduring and successful Formula 1 cars ever.
