The 16th round of the 2025 FIM MotoGP™ World Championship delivered an intense show at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, in front of an ever-passionate crowd. In generally favourable weather conditions, Michelin and its partners confirmed the relevance of the tyre allocation, with the Medium tyre widely used both front and rear in the Grand Prix.
Friday: settling in and methodical work
The opening day took place under clear skies, with track temperatures ranging from 30 to 35°C. On a circuit that offers plenty of grip – a sharp contrast to Barcelona – the riders tested the full range of MICHELIN Power MotoGP tyres.
The Medium front tyre quickly established itself as the reference for the entire grid, while at the rear teams compared the behaviour of the Soft and the Medium. As expected, the Soft delivered more traction but a more "nervous" character, whereas the Medium stood out for its stability and consistency.
Saturday: an intense Tissot Sprint won by Bezzecchi
With conditions similar to Friday but slightly less grip, the Tissot Sprint confirmed expectations: all riders opted for the Medium front / Soft rear combination. The high grip levels produced very reactive bikes, sometimes at the cost of a lighter front end or vibrations felt by some riders.
Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) shone by securing pole position and winning the Tissot Sprint ahead of Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team).
Meanwhile, Saturday also featured rounds 11 and 12 of the 2025 FIM MotoE™ World Championship. Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE Team) won the day's opening race, moving to the top of the standings with 160 points. In the afternoon, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) claimed victory in Race 2 and kept his title hopes alive, as he now sits third overall with 148 points. The grand finale in Portimão will therefore decide the 2025 World Champion.
Sunday: a fiercely contested Grand Prix
Overnight rain briefly reduced grip levels in the morning, but the track recovered good grip by the time of the Grand Prix start (28°C track temperature).
The vast majority of the grid opted for the Medium front and rear, confirming the strength of this combination over the distance. Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and Somkiat Chantra (LCR Honda) chose to gamble on a Soft rear to maximise grip, at the cost of a more demanding ride.
Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) emerged victorious after a thrilling battle with Marco Bezzecchi, while Alex Marquez completed the podium.
Piero Taramasso, Michelin Motorsport Two-Wheel Manager
"We experienced a very rich weekend from both a technical and sporting perspective. From Friday onwards, the riders confirmed that our allocation perfectly matched the demands of Misano, a track that is tough on the front and requires a rear that is both consistent and precise. As is often the case here, the Medium front became the natural choice: it combines braking stability, confidence on fast entries, and strong durability across sessions.
At the rear, we saw a clear contrast between the Soft, which delivers strong grip but makes the bike more nervous, and the Medium, which brings greater stability and regularity. Saturday's Sprint showcased the benefits of the Soft in a short format, even if several riders noted a lighter front or some vibrations linked to the high grip levels. On Sunday, over 27 laps, almost the entire grid switched to the Medium rear, and the results spoke for themselves: consistent lap times and a top-level battle for victory.
These elements confirm that we have found the right balance between grip, stability and consistency, which is very satisfying for the whole team. The ability of our tyres to adapt to changing conditions – very high grip on Saturday, a slightly washed-out track on Sunday morning – demonstrates the strength of the range. We leave with a wealth of positive lessons for the rest of the season."
Next stop: Japan
The FIM MotoGP™ World Championship will continue in two weeks with the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, held from September 26 to 28, 2025 at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit. It will mark the start of the Asian leg, with Indonesia hosting the paddock the following weekend in Mandalika.
