"The Professor" Alain Prost celebrated his 100th start in Formula 1 on this day in 1986.
Qualifying third at the brand-new Hungarian Grand Prix, the first Grand Prix to ever be held in the Soviet Union, Prost's big day was not a happy one; the Frenchman retiring on lap 23. Nelson Piquet would go on to win the race from fellow Brazilian Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell. The result meant that Prost, Senna, Piquet and Mansell were covered by just 11 points in the Drivers' Championship standings.
The 1985 World Champion, Prost would add another three championships throughout his career, becoming one of the most successful Grand Prix drivers of all time. His legendary rivalry with future McLaren teammate Senna is perhaps the most storied in the history of Formula 1.
