The legendary James Hunt was born on this day in 1947.
The 1976 world champion, crowned after a title fight with Ferrari's Niki Lauda, was known for his acerbic wit and devil-may-care attitude both in and out of the car.
But Hunt's charisma belied the fact that he was a naturally gifted grand prix driver, capable of battling with anyone for victory. Even before his title-winning year with McLaren, Hunt's star was rising with Hesketh Racing.
After he retired from the sport in 1979, Hunt would form a legendary commentary partnership with Murray Walker. Hunt's insight and humour, combined with Walker's enthusiasm and "Murrayisms", meant that Formula 1 viewers in the 1980s and 1990s were always entertained.
