Michael Schumacher produced a dominant performance to win the German Grand Prix on this day in 2004.
Qualifying on pole, three tenths ahead of the Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya, Schumacher quickly established a healthy lead after the race start. Untouchable, the German crossed the line eight seconds ahead of Jenson Button to win his home race, his eleventh victory in twelve races.
On another day, Button may very well have won the race. Qualifying third, the Englishman was hit with a ten-place grid penalty after his BAR-Honda had its engine changed in practice.
A young Fernando Alonso finished third. The Renault driver and Schumacher would duel for the title in 2005, with the Spaniard emerging victorious to finally end Schumacher and Ferrari's stranglehold on Formula 1.
