MXGP Indonesia: Continued success for Dunlop as Febvre claims victory with impressive ride in Lombok

An impressive Romain Febvre claimed his second consecutive victory in MXGP, after taking the overall win in Lombok on Sunday.

Dunlop rider Romain Febvre won the inaugural FIM Motocross World Championship round in Lombok (Indonesia), returning to the top step of the podium for the second time in two weeks. The Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team rider used Geomax MX34 front and MX14 rear tires, allowing him to manoeuvre through the mix of sand and dirt terrain in the high heat and humidity of Indonesia.

After qualifying third on Saturday, Febvre built a commanding lead in the first race, until with just two laps to go, a fierce battle saw rival Jorge Prado claim back that lead with a nail-biting move, swinging across the track and pushing Febvre wide. Febvre was forced to settle for second.

The second MXGP race saw Febvre get out of the gate well and cement himself into second place, behind Prado. Febvre put pressure on the leader over the first lap, before lunging down the inside of Prado on lap 2 to briefly take the lead. After another lap of the riders trading first and second place, Febvre took and maintained the lead on lap 3, despite the pressure from Prado for the rest of the race. Febvre impressively maintained this lead, before taking the overall win.

Despite the overall points being level between Febvre and Prado following both races, the Dunlop rider's commanding win in race two earned him the accolade of the overall victory, for the second consecutive round.

The Frenchman wasn't the only Dunlop rider who was successful during the weekend, however. Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing rider Roan Van De Moosdijk finished third on the podium in MX2 race one, with teammate Kay De Wolf narrowly missing out in fourth, proving Dunlop's capabilities in both of the classes. Last weekend, their teammate Lucas Coenen won the MX2 Grand Prix, too. Dunlop uses the same MXGP-winning expertise in the feeder MX2 World Championship.

Wim Van Achter, Motorsport Manager, Dunlop: "The MXGP round in Lombok showcased the exceptional performance of Dunlop tires once again. The Dunlop riders' success in both classes is testament to the quality and capability of our Geomax MX34 front and MX14 rear tires. Congratulations to Febvre for the overall MXGP win, and to Van De Moosdijk for his worthy podium in MX2. I am delighted that our tires are able to facilitate these riders and their remarkable achievements in this World Championship."

The FIM Motocross World Championship continues in the Czech Republic for its next round on 16th July.
