The great Juan Manuel Fangio passed away on this day in 1995.
A force of nature in the 1950's, Fangio won four Drivers Championships with Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati and Mercedes-Benz, the last in 1957. It would be more than 35 years until Alain Prost became only the second driver to match Fangio with four Championships. Fangio remains the driver with the highest winning percentage in Formula 1 history, at a staggering 46.15% victory rate. He holds several other records which will likely never be broken.
After retiring from Formula 1, Fangio sold Mercedes-Benz cars in his native Argentina, being mate honorary president for life in 1987. He passed away from kidney failure.
