In one of the most captivating Le Mans 24 Hours in recent memory, Ferrari celebrated its return to La Sarthe by securing a first victory since 1965.
With their beautiful 499Ps locking out the front row of the grid in qualifying, the main question was whether the fast but relatively untested Ferraris could match the might of the Toyotas. But after an incredible race where the lead was swapped several times, the No51 499P, driven by James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi, crossed the line to confirm Ferrari's triumphant return to the ultimate prize of endurance racing.
Elsewhere, a lot of interest was gathered by a one-off entry by Garage 56: a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 NASCAR Cup machine modified for endurance racing and driven by 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button. Although not classified owing to it not belonging to a car class, the Camaro wowed fans and finished 39th after gearbox problems.
Celebrate Ferrari's victory by browsing some of the its most feted cars, as well as genuine vintage posters from the last 100 years of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Here's to the next 100.
