Stirling Moss held off Juan Manuel Fangio to win the Monaco Grand Prix on this day in 1956.
Mr Motor Racing took the lead from pole-sitter Fangio at the start of the race and built up a commanding lead. Fangio, having a rare off day, damaged his Ferrari after hitting the harbour wall. However when lapping a back marker on lap 86 out of 100, Moss suffered damage, resulting in the bonnet of his Maserati to lift dangerously. Fangio started to reel the Englishman in, but Moss survived to win by 6sec from the Argentinian.
