The race has stood the test of time as being one of the all-time great scraps between two championship-calibre drivers – Pat Symonds remembers the story in today's Great Read 16 years on from Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher's showdown at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, the duel between the two is cited as one of those epic races despite there being no overtake at the death. "I think absolutely we understand that it's not actually overtaking it's close racing that matters," Pat Symonds told Motor Sport reflecting on the race.
