Formula 1's only posthumous World Champion, Jochen Rindt, was born on this day in 1942.
The talented Austrian had been leading the 1970 World Championship before suffering a fatal accident at the Italian Grand Prix. However, the chasing Jacky Ickx couldn't make up the points deficit, meaning Rindt was crowned World Champion a month after his death.
Rindt and Niki Lauda remain the only Austrians to ever be crowned World Champion. Rindt's connection with Lotus and Colin Chapman remains eternal to this day.
