The versatility of MICHELIN Power Slick tyres once again at the heart of performance
• After the MICHELIN® Grand Prix of France, the riders of the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship meet again this weekend at the Silverstone circuit in the United Kingdom.
• The British track is the longest and flattest of the championship, and the weather could be among the coolest, as the Grand Prix has been moved from August in 2024 to late May this season.
• Confident in their choices, the Michelin Motorsport teams have planned an identical tyre package to last year.

In 2024, the British round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship was the 10th event of the season. This time, the race stands as the 7th round, between the MICHELIN Grand Prix of France and the GoPro Grand Prix of Aragon (Spain), scheduled from June 6 to 8. After a colorful 2024 season, the first part of the 2025 championship is also living up to expectations. Epic battles have taken place at each Grand Prix, and new records have been broken, with the support of Michelin’s MotoGP tyre range.

After the attendance record set at the Le Mans circuit (France), the grandstands at Silverstone (with a capacity of 160,000 people) are also likely to be well filled to admire the MotoGP virtuosos, as several tens of thousands of tickets have already been reserved.

A former Royal Air Force base, the Silverstone circuit is easily accessible to the public. It is located just one hour from central Birmingham to the north, and 1.5 hours from London to the south. It was founded in 1947 by a group of racing enthusiasts and hosted its first motorcycle Grand Prix in 1977. With a length of 5.9 km, it includes eight left-hand turns and ten right-handers, plus a 770 m straight.

"This track is very special – it's the longest of the season and the average speed is very high," says Piero Taramasso, Michelin's two-wheel competition manager. "There are long straights, where the bikes nearly reach 340 km/h, and very fast corner combinations that place a lot of stress on the rear tyre. The grip level is average, the asphalt (resurfaced in 2019) isn't very abrasive, and tyre wear is easy to manage, even though the braking forces are very demanding. The unknowns are the amount of sunshine, temperatures, and any possible rainfall we may encounter. Last year, ground temperatures rose to 43°C at the beginning of August, and it’s unlikely to happen again in late May. However, we are not concerned because our tyres are very versatile, and the data collected here over recent years led us to define this package as ready for all conditions, both for this circuit and the season overall."

For the Tissot Grand Prix of the United Kingdom, Michelin will offer its partners three rubber compounds (Soft, Medium, Hard) with symmetrical profiles for the front tyre, and Soft and Medium rubber tyres for the rear. Given the higher number of right-hand turns, the rear tyres will feature reinforced rubber on the right side.

In case of rain, Michelin will provide its MICHELIN Power Rain range in Soft and Medium compounds for both front and rear, with the same profile as the MICHELIN Power Slick range.

In 2024, the Sprint race was won by Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) ahead of Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing).

On Sunday, the Grand Prix once again saw Enea Bastianini take the win ahead of Jorge Martin, with the third step of the podium taken by Francesco Bagnaia, riding the other Ducati Lenovo Team bike.

For 2025, the Tissot Grand Prix of the United Kingdom will begin on Friday, May 23, with a morning practice session, followed by a second session in the afternoon that will allow the 10 fastest riders direct access to the second qualifying phase (Q2). After the Saturday morning free practice, Q1 will give a second chance to two more riders to qualify for Q2, which will determine the starting grid for the weekend. The Sprint race (10 laps) will take place on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. in France), and the Grand Prix (20 laps) is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., London time.
