Think of the great Formula 1 champions and Jody Scheckter is unlikely to feature. But, says Matt Bishop, the 1979 title-winner who won his maiden grand prix on this day in 1974, deserves more acclaim for a career in which he was once the best driver, bar none Jody Scheckter won the world championship for Ferrari. It happened on 9 September 1979, a warm, sunny day at Monza, and it — a Ferrari man winning a drivers' world championship — would not happen again for another 21 years and 29 days, when on 8 October 2000 Michael Schumacher repeated the feat at Suzuka. |
